Memories of a forgotten yesterday
Tuesday, August 1st, 2006
Don’t we all have memories,
Memories of a forgotten yesterday.
Memories of a song unsung,
of lyrics forgotten and unwritten,
yet so subliminally and quaintly familiar,
much so like yesterday.
Recollections from a faded photograph,
Memories of a forgotten smile,
and a secret joke, I’ll never forget.
An unfinished jigsaw finished tomorrow.
Memories of a forgotten yesterday.
Footsteps down a forgotten path,
With you around life was never dull.
Of an unfinished tale, i forgot, I’ll never remember.
An uncompleted painting finished tomorrow.
Memories of a forgotten yesterday.
Lets us forever in today our memories stay,
and yesterday, of memories forgotten, I’ll never forget.
and when tomorrow comes,
I’ll frame you up, I’ll write you down.
A memento mori, a wilted rose.
Memories of a forgotten yesterday.
HOLY SONNET X
Tuesday, August 1st, 2006Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so ;
For those, whom thou think’st thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy picture[s] be,
Much pleasure, then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul’s delivery.
Thou’rt slave to Fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy, or charms can make us sleep as well,
And better than thy stroke ; why swell’st thou then ?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And Death shall be no more ; Death, thou shalt die.
-John Donne
